IKIGAI
ANNUAL DAY THEME FOR THE YEAR 2023-24
Education holds significance for all individuals, yet at times, it can become a source of stress. This is where concepts like ikigai can prove beneficial, not only for students but also for educators, aiding in the development of a more tailored and effective approach to learning
The people of Japan believe that everyone has an Ikigai- a reason to jump out of bed each morning.
Inspiring and comforting, this book will give you the life-changing tools to uncover your personal Ikigai. It will show you how to leave urgency behind, find your purpose, nurture friendships and throw yourself into your passions.
The book is much more than just figuring out what your ikigai is. It is much more than that. It really opened your eyes to how centenarians are regarded in Japanese culture, particularly in Okinawa, and what they accomplish that we might emulate in your own life.
What they eat and drink, how they exercise, how they manage stress, and how living in a close community and social ties and relationships affects their well-being and longevity. My favorite part of the book was the interviews of the 100-year-old people. Their perspective on happiness and life is something that could be considered very basic and well known. But at the same time often forgotten in the daily hassle of modern living.
The people also share how staying close to nature and surrounding yourself with people you love and people who love you increases the quality of life, thus again sharing the central idea of the book, “Happiness is the key to a longer life.”
Long-term happiness that lingers with you and resonates with your environment, not impulsive or transitory enjoyment. A couple sections of the book felt repetitious, but the aim of the book isn't to teach you basic ideas that everyone already knows. But first, let me remind you how powerful and influential those ancient ways of living are.

What are you on this earth to do? This is no simple question. You are the only one who can answer it. This book walks you through a process to explore a person's many dimensions in order to set a confident direction in life. It centres around the concept of Ikigai.
Ikigai is one's intersection of personal, community and professional purpose in life. As the world changes quickly around us, adaptation must orbit a delicate balance between individual meaning and collective progress. This journal helps you unpack the many layers of those dynamic ideals. This structured journal has four sections of ten weeks each. Each week you are faced with one question a day for four days that challenges you to examine your self-perception, unique value and mission in this world. It is not for the faint of heart. It is for anyone looking to align their time and energy with their purpose in life. |
