Earners of the library  Reading Medal 2023-24

According to a survey conducted by Scholastic India, more than 77% of children believe reading books for fun is extremely or very important. This includes leisure books or storybooks and not the books that are part of their curriculum.

Younger kids like reading short stories that contain pictures. They tend to lean more towards comic books and fairy tales. The survey finds younger kids to read more for leisure while the older kids read more for learning.

children aged 15–17, engage themselves with video games or outdoor games. Others may like watching a video on YouTube or spending time on their mobile phones and computers. These kids emphasize that strong computer skills and acute thinking skills are equally essential.

As per the survey, around 30 per cent of children consider themselves “good” readers and this confidence surge with age. 32 per cent of children report that they are frequent readers, but overall, nine in every ten kids i.e 92% say that they read books for fun at least one day a week.
